ARMY BAY / TIRI CHANNEL TRIP REPORT
Hit the water off Army Bay at first light for a bit of a lures vs bait mission, working our way out towards the Tiri Channel.
The water is definitely starting to warm up out there and it really feels like the area is starting to come on the bite. There was plenty of life around and a hell of a lot more action than some of our winter missions!
We had the Black Magic Sunakkus and Flipper Jigs getting a workout alongside the Snapper Snatchers, with bait there as the control to see what was actually producing.
The lures were doing the damage for most of the morning. Some decent gurnard showed up and we caught heaps of borderline snapper on the lures, while strangely the bait struggled to get much attention all day.
Then... absolute chaos.
Iβd already managed to cut my hand on the nylon getting Natβs fish into the boat when suddenly the bait rod absolutely lit up and started screaming.
And of course it couldn't just be straightforward...
The line ended up tangled around another rod and the sea anchor, all while this fish was peeling line and turning the back of the boat into a complete shitshow. π Somehow we got everything untangled, stayed connected and eventually got the bugger alongside.
69cm and 12lb 4oz of fat snapper!
After the bait struggling for basically the whole session, it only took one bite to completely change the day.
Awesome morning off our local. Plenty of action on the lures, some good gurnard, the water warming up around the Tiri Channel and finally a proper moocha in the boat. It definitely feels like the spring fishing is starting to fire up!
π₯ We filmed the whole mission β including all the chaos β for the latest Serial Giller episode on YouTube:
