The Wellington Surfcasting and Angling Club is Wellington’s premier fishing club. Established in 1958 the Club has a strong tradition of competitive fishing throughout the country and has won national titles on many occasions.

The Club has over 100 members of all ages and is affiliated to both the New Zealand Angling and Casting Association and the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council.

The objectives of the Club are to promote and foster sport fishing in the Wellington Region. To this end we organise a range of activities, including competitions, awards and social fishing sessions and events. We have both Shore and Boat sections in which members can compete at senior, junior and colt levels.

Our Club season runs from 1st July to 30th June during which time we hold 10 shore and 8 boat competitions with a bbq after each weigh-in. Different points are awarded for the fish caught depending on their species, weight and the line used. Trophies are awarded at our annual social and prize giving night for the best total of accumulated points in each of the competition sections. We also have a number of other trophies and awards for fish caught in and out of competitions during the season. Sponsored prizes are also awarded for Fish of the Month and lucky angler competition participants.
