We put a competition out to one Facebook group to see what would happen. What happened is people outside that group started asking if they could get in too. Fair call — so we're opening it up properly.
The Fisho Spring Competition is running now through to Wednesday 22nd September, 6pm. It's hosted through our good friends at Bream Bay Fishing Plus on Facebook — look for the Bream Bay Fishing+ club in the app, free to join. You don't need to live anywhere near Bream Bay to fish it — anyone fishing anywhere in New Zealand can enter.
Let's be upfront — this isn't about big prizes. It's Fisho anglers against Fisho anglers, bragging rights on the line more than anything. But we've thrown in a few sweeteners to make it worth your while, and every entry you log is helping us prove this out for bigger competitions down the line.
What's up for grabs
Three species count: Snapper, Kahawai and Trevally. Every legal entry you log during the competition goes into the draw for 1 of 3 Penn rod and reel combos — one combo drawn per species, pure luck of the draw, no correlation to size. On top of that, the top 3 longest fish logged in each species take home a fisho.nz beer cooler and a stack of Berkley Gulp baits.
Standard rules apply — your catch needs to meet the legal minimum size and bag limit for wherever you're fishing. The MPI NZ Fishing Rules app or fisheries.govt.nz will have the numbers for your area.
How to get in
Download the Fisho Catch app — free on the App Store and Google Play — set up your account, then head to Clubs and join Bream Bay Fishing Plus. Joining is instant, no waiting on approval. From there, log your catch — species, length, a photo if you've got one — and you're in the draw. The leaderboard runs live on Fisho for the whole three weeks.

Why we're doing this
This is the first public run of Fisho's competition system outside a private club setup, and it's built for more than just this one comp. Any fishing club, community group or work crew in New Zealand can run their own competition on Fisho the same way — real leaderboards, proper entry tracking, no spreadsheets.
